Who We Be

A community of teenagers and adult leaders who are constantly challenged by God to rely on His grace to survive, to grow, and to carry on.

We don’t have it all together, we do struggle occasionally just to get out of bed; we are sometimes insecure, often overcome by the same struggles, and never the perfect model for holiness. In short, we are the Blessed who Jesus calls “the poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3) in that our lives are only made rich because God continually gives us grace (II Cor. 8:9).

We’ve hit the jackpot, we know it, and we want to celebrate God’s free gift in Jesus Christ.

Why We Be

FOaks Student Minstry exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ who are motivated by His grace in becoming spiritually mature (II Cor. 5:4; Heb. 12:15; Matthew 28: 18-20; II Tim. 2:2).

Sound complicated?? Let me explain. We believe that God has called those of us stragglers who’ve trusted Jesus Christ as His Son, the Messiah, and our Savior to make disciples (Mt. 28: 18-20). And, once becoming disciples, all of us are called to move toward spiritual maturity (Eph. 4:13). Since disciples we are and we desire spiritual maturity, the question that has haunted us and now drives us is this: How do we get from discipleship (over here) TO spiritual maturity (over there)?

Only by God’s grace. We greatly desire to help others, as God works through us, to lay a foundation of motivation during this season of life as a teenager—specially, the motivation of grace. Grace is God’s love made active through an undeserved, unconditional gift that He gives us. His greatest activity of love was expressed through the sending of His Son Jesus Christ, who freely died for our sins (1 Jn. 4: 9-10). But many of us know even this but when we try to do good things or obey God we are so often motivated by guilt, shame, obligation, trying to impress others, and the list goes on.

But what if most of our lives was motivated by this grace God gives us? What if obedience and doing good to others was simply a big THANK YOU back to God for the many free gifts of grace He’s given us? We wholeheartedly believe this is possible and is the desire of God as expressed in His Word.

How Might U Be

Grace says, “God loves you as you just as you are, not as you should be.” Accordingly, we have various outlets where you can be hear from God and His Word exactly as you are (you don’t have to be super-spiritual Christian…or even a “Christian” at all).

We seek share God’s grace with you (& each other) through venues such as an outreach coffeehouse, Large Groups, Small Groups, Bible Studies, Special Events, Student Leadership, doulos leadership training—each of which is designed so God can meet you as you are.

These represent the myriad of ways U might be involved in FOaks Student Ministry.
